| Playa Computer 2008 | | | This portable device is designed to enhance your experience on the playa, without adding too many electrons to your pocket.
It's not a PDA. You could bring your Blackberry or a Palm Pilot if you wanted. You could schedule little reminders for the events you absolutely must go to.
It's not a GPS. You could bring a Garmin and stare at the screen all week.
It's not a Watch. But it does tell accurate time and will tell you when events are happening.
This is something different. It's starting out as a reference hardware design and some initial applications. The financial and time cost to get one running is as low as possible. Version 1.0 might be $200... but we want make it lower so anyone can afford one. Also, I'm a terrible solderer, and not very good at following directions. I want it to be VERY simple to order parts and get going.
It's also designed to be extended. Start with a $20 board and a 9V battery and a case (bought or assembled). For a little extra, add LEDs, full color screens, keyboard/mouse, computer monitor, TV.
Add a GPS and G-Force sensor and now it can triangulate your location and offer button free interface designs. (Ex: turn South to see what time it is. Turn North and wobble to get a Tarot reading.)
